CONDUCTIVITY MEASUREMENT
Conductivity is widely use in industrial applications
that involve the detection of contaminants in water and concentration measurements.
Envirosensors Pty Ltd has a full range of conductivity probes, meters and
transmitters from WTW, Sensorex, and Jenco EDT Ion Direct.

CONDUCTIVITY PRIMER
Conductivity is the reciprocal (inverse) of electrical resistivity and has the SI units of siemens per meter (S·m-1) i.e. if the electrical conductance between opposite faces of a 1-meter cube of material is 1 siemens then the material's electrical conductivity is 1 siemens per meter. Electrical conductivity is commonly represented by the Greek letter σ, but κ or γ are also occasionally used.
Conductivity measures how well a solution conducts
electricity. The units of conductivity are Siemens/cm
(S/cm), which are identical to the older unit of
mhos/cm.
Conductivity measurements cover a wide range of
solution conductivity from pure water at less than
1x10-7 S/cm to values in excess of 1 S/cm for concentrated
solutions
For convenience, conductivity is usually expressed in
the units of microSiemens/cm (µS/cm, one millionth of
a Siemen/cm) or milliSiemens/cm (mS/cm, one thousandth
of a Siemen/cm).
